Shri Guru Nanak Dev - the Founder of Sikhism

The founder of the Sikh religion, Sri Guru Nanak Dev ji, known popularly as Guru Nanak, was born in 1469 in the Punjab region of India (now in Pakistan).

The central message of Guru Nanak is that everyone should respect all religions. For him, love and respect - not just tolerance for those of other faiths - is the cornerstone of a democratic society. Nanak's whole life and his teachings symbolised inter-faith harmony. Nanak's mission was to help transform people's attitudes by freeing them of hatred and mistrust, bias and prejudice on grounds of religion.
